Putnam County Fourth of July crash leaves baby, 21-year-old dead

Florida Highway Patrol says the crash happened just before midnight approximately four miles south of the Ocala National Forest.
PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. — A baby and a 21-year-old Hastings woman died in a Putnam County crash on the Fourth of July Thursday night, according to Florida Highway Patrol.
At 11:43 p.m., FHP says an SUV driven by a 60-year-old man from New York was traveling south on State Road 19, approaching the Marion County line. At the same time, the woman and baby were traveling north on SR-19 in a van, approximately one mile north of the Marion Co. line.
The FHP crash report states that the crash happened when the SUV “attempted to pass/overtake another vehicle as described by witnesses,” as the front left part of both the SUV and van made a collision. The SUV violated the right of way of the woman who was driving the van, the report states.
As a result of the crash, the SUV became overturned and came to final rest facing northwest, while the van came to final rest facing east on the eastern shoulder, according to FHP.
Troopers say the New York man, as well as a 62-year-old woman who is also from New York and was a passenger in the SUV, were seriously injured in the crash.
FHP did not release the identities of those involved in the crash.
