The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office said Matthew Gooch, 34, was charged with shooting into an occupied dwelling and shooting into and unoccupied conveyance.

LAKE CITY, Fla. — The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office said a Lake City man fired into an unoccupied vehicle and an occupied home with no injuries on Wednesday morning.

A deputy who at the Columbia County Detention Facility heard several gunshots which seemed to be coming from east of his location shortly before 6 a.m. on Wednesday, police said. He was directed by witnesses to a residence on Laverne Street.

Deputies then observed an unoccupied vehicle and occupied home that had been struck several times by gunfire and several shell casings in the roadway.

The sheriff’s office said Matthew Gooch, 34, had an altercation with a resident of the home a few hours prior, which deputies have called an “isolated domestic dispute.”

Responding to his residence on Nye Hunter Drive with the CCSO SWAT and Negotiations Teams, Gooch was taken into custody without incident.

“It is a shame that people let personal issues rise to the level where they commit criminal acts. I am glad no one was injured as a result of this suspect’s dangerous behavior,” Sheriff Mark Hunter stated in a press release. “I am proud of our deputies and detectives for locating and apprehending this suspect so quickly to ensure the safety of our community.”

Gooch was charged with shooting into an occupied dwelling and shooting into and unoccupied conveyance. His bond is set at $200,000.
