WASHINGTON — Memorial Day, honoring U.S. military members who died while in service, will be celebrated on Monday, May 27, 2024. 

The holiday can be a somber day for some Americans, while others celebrate it as the unofficial start to summer with parades, cookouts, beach days and family gatherings. 

It’s a federal holiday, so government offices will close and there won’t be any mail delivery, but many stores will be open for last-minute grocery runs.
