Former Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry on Jaguars stadium deal

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — In a statement released Tuesday, Former Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry encouraged city councilmembers to approve the proposed Jaguars stadium deal, calling it a “win for taxpayers.”

Curry said he is “quite pleased” with the terms of the agreement, specifically the shift of burden of the facility from the citizens of Jacksonville to the football team.

“The Jaguars are tasked with providing their own office space, which has been an expense for the City for the last 30 years,” Curry said. “Most importantly, Shad Khan is bringing $625 million in cash up front for construction of a building to be owned by the City of Jacksonville. The ‘deal’ appears to be a win for taxpayers.”

The former Republican mayor said he encourages the City Council to approve the deal to “maintain the NFL presence in Jacksonville for at least three more decades.”
