JFRD: Arson ‘suspected’ in fire at Believer’s Joy Worship Center
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office says a person has been detained in the incident.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department told First Coast News Tuesday morning that “arson is suspected” in a fire that happened at a church on Jacksonville’s Northside Monday night.
However, the cause of the fire is being investigated by the State Fire Marshal’s Office, according to JFRD.
JFRD Captain Eric Prosswimmer says the fire occurred at 10:15 p.m. at Believer’s Joy Worship Center, which is located at 13066 Yellow Bluff Rd. He adds that there were nearly two dozen fire trucks that responded to the church.
Pastor Lyle Shiferdek Jr. told First Coast News the church is still planning to have service this weekend.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office says officers responded to the fire, saying it was “a reported arson and burglary,” and that a person has been detained in the incident.
Nevertheless, “no arrests have made” at this time, according to JSO.
