Police investigating attempted murder at Ginnie Springs

The sheriff’s office and Florida Department of Law Enforcement are on the scene canvassing for possible witnesses and one “outstanding subject that was involved.”

GILCHRIST COUNTY, Fla. — An investigation is ongoing after an attempted murder at Ginnie Springs on Saturday night, according to the Gilchrist County Sheriff’s Office.

Around 11:30 p.m., police responded to a roadway inside Ginnie Springs between the Devil’s Spring and the tube launch in reference to an attempted murder. Further details on the incident were not immediately provided.

The sheriff’s office and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement are on the scene canvassing for possible witnesses and one “outstanding subject that was involved.”

Investigators are searching for a woman in her early 20s, approximately 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet, with long braids and light-tinted contacts. Police said the woman was last seen wearing a green swimsuit top with multi-colored patterned swim bottoms.

The woman has been staying in the area and was last seen walking toward the exit of the park, according to police.

Ginnie Springs announced on social media Sunday morning that the park was temporarily closed, adding it will let attendees know when admissions are avaliable again.

The popular recreational springs says on its website that Memorial Day Weekend is an “adult weekend with a party atmosphere” that is not recommended for children.
