23-year-old killed in Saturday I-10 crash identified

The family of Gavin Carter has told First Coast News that he was the second person killed early Saturday morning. 

According to FHP’s report, troopers were dispatched to the first crash at 2:06 a.m.,  near mile marker 360 on I-10. A 31-year-old man was driving an SUV traveling eastbound on I-10 west of McDuff Avenue. The victim failed to maintain its lane, the report said, later overturning and striking the wall. The man was pronounced dead on the scene, troopers said.

Troopers referred to Carter as a “Good Samaritan” who stopped to help, leaving his vehicle.

He was hit by a sedan and killed, according to FHP. He was pronounced dead at the scene.  

FHP said the driver of the sedan collided with the concrete barrier wall on the right shoulder on I-10 the driver fled on foot.

The agency has not released further suspect or vehicle descriptions.
