JSO: 2 arrested for murder of 14-year-old in Sherwood Forest area

Officers found 14-year-old Micah Thomas suffering from a gunshot wound on New Year’s Day on Castle Boulevard.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Three people are facing charges, including a 16-year-old, in connection to a New Year’s Day shooting that left a 14-year-old dead, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

Officers responded around 6:10 p.m. on Jan. 1 to the 9000 block of Castle Boulevard in reference to a person shot.

When officers arrived, they found 14-year-old Micah Thomas suffering from a gunshot wound. The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department took Thomas to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

JSO’s Homicide and Crime Scene detectives, along with the State Attorney’s Office responded to the scene to conduct their respective investigations.

Detectives looked through evidence and additional information, ultimately identifying three suspects.

Police said Rian Brown, 16, and Isaiah Conner, 23, both face murder charges in connection to Thomas’ shooting death. Lamaya Gillis, 20, faces a charge of accessory after the fact in connection with Thomas’ murder, according to police.

Conner was arrested on Thursday and also faces an armed robbery charge, according to jail records.

First Coast News is choosing to identify Brown, despite his minor status, due to the severity of the crimes in which he was arrested and charged.

The announcement of the arrests comes hours after two juveniles were shot and killed at a Northside apartment complex.
