Sheriff Rick Staly asked residents to stay away from the area of Forsythe Lane Wednesday morning during a Facebook live, as investigators work the situation.

Staly said the incident began as a disturbance call from an individual, that escalated to aggravated assault on a deputy. He added the suspect is “holed up in his house.”

The sheriff said investigators will be on scene “for a while” due to the “dynamics of this incident.”

FCSO requested assistance from the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office’s bomb squad. SJCO said bomb technicians and tactical equipment were requested.

SWAT team and negotiators are also on scene, according to Staly.

“It’s best just to stay out of this area, hopefully we can de-escalate this individual and bring it to a peaceful conclusion to make sure this community remains safe,” said Staly.

First Coast News has a crew headed to the scene and will provide updates to this story.
